Slam Dunk Contest

On Saturday we had a family Slam Dunk Contest!  What a blast!

Here's Jacob -- he's got some skills!

Then Jimmy took his turn.  They love hanging from the rim!
Nina wanted a turn. (Nina is her new name around here.  She has a new name every day.  Poor girl is probably so confused.)
All right, Nina!!  Way to go!
 Jacob doing a lay-up.
And showing off some of his ball-handling skills!

And this picture perfectly describes Jimmy's zeal and zest for life!

Christie's 2nd Birthday

What a wonderful little girl we have!
Happy Birthday, my dear "Kees-Kees-Anna."

We had such a fun day.  We got donuts in the morning.  I made a white cake with pink sparkles.  We went to McDonald's for lunch and played on the "mee-noun" (playground).  We had cake in the afternoon, got to play on our new slide and, best of all, she got to wear her new horse-y pajamas that Aunt Amy sent her.  All in all, a great birthday!

Four Things I Learned at Costco

1.  I find it ironic that the bread is located right next to the wine.  There's got to be some Biblical reference there; right?

2.  A little girl got lost from her mother's side for just a moment.  I said, "Hold my hand.  Let's go find your mommy."  A few seconds later, her mom popped around the corner and they were reunited with love and joy.  So glad I got to give comfort to a worried little girl.  And even more glad I got to see the reunion.  Panic and fear turned to delight and excitement in a matter of seconds all because she saw her mommy's face and heard her voice.

3.  I saw an elderly man walking out of Costco with one of those humongous five-foot-tall teddy bears, undoubtedly purchased for a grandchild.  He was walking in such a way as to not be noticed, as to indicate that he wanted to get out of there as fast as he could without seeing anybody he knew.  His masculinity was in question.  Step away, people.  I laughed to myself.  And then I thought about that happy child receiving such an enormous teddy bear and I thought, "That is the greatest grandpa in the world.  He's probably going to make some kid's entire life."

4.  At the hot dog stand, Christie and I were sitting eating our lunch and a mom and her little boy were filling up their drinks.  The boy was about 4 and he said, "Mom, this time I want to say the prayer.  Can I say the prayer?"  The mom assured him that he would be able to say the prayer.  A few minutes later, I saw them with their heads bowed and their arms folded and their eyes closed praying together before they ate lunch.  I thought to myself, "They are better Christians than I am!"  I never pray in public over lunch ... and at Costco, no less.  But they weren't ashamed to pray and I was thankful for their example.  I need to be more like them.

It's the little things in life that give us meaning and teach us!

Looks Like Heaven

When we die, this is what I think it will look like as we ascend into heaven to meet our family and friends on the other side.  This is what I'd like to see.  Big fluffy clouds with the streams of sunlight bursting from behind.

I love Texas sunsets.

Easter Evening

Our Easter didn't really happen until Sunday night.  I had two kids home from church, sick.  Christiana had a stomach bug, and Jacob had a fever with cold symptoms.  So Jason was the hero and stayed home and fixed a ham dinner for us.  I went to church with Jimmy, which I must admit I loved!

Christie was feeling better in the evening, so we hid the eggs and let her find them all.  The kids got a few treats and toys.  We try to keep Easter simple.  It was kind of a yucky day for the family but I think we're on the upswing now.

I think one of my favorite memories of this Easter is having a warm conversation with Jason about his dad.  It's been a month since his passing and he has been on my mind a lot this past weekend.  I appreciated so much the comfort of the Holy Ghost and Jason's wisdom and kindness as well.  I can't express enough my gratitude for the precious gift of the Plan, for the atoning sacrifice of my Savior, and for my knowledge and testimony of these things.  This knowledge that we hold so sacred and so dear to our hearts is the greatest blessing.  Nothing even comes close to it.

When Your House is For Sale...

...you do things you wouldn't normally do.

Like clean and decorate with what little decor you have...

...keep your kitchen immaculate!

...keep your bathroom shiny!

...plant flowers in flowerpots!  (Something I've never done.  I know.  Embarrassing.)

...landscape!

...and last but not least -- display cookbooks on easels!  (Who does that normally?  Seriously.)

It's been a lot of work, work, work getting this house up to selling standards.  I have dirt under my fingernails from planting and maintaining flowers!  I'm sure -- so annoyed by that.

The house looks good, though.  Jason and I don't want to move now that it looks so nice.

We've had a few showings this week.  One more this afternoon.  We're keeping our fingers crossed that a cute, fun family will buy our home and enjoy living here as much as we have.

Sad and excited at the exact same time.
